Symmetric functions of powers

Shew that if $S_{r}$ is the sum of the products $r$ together of $1, x, x^{2}, x^{3}, e x t ... x^{n - 1}$ , then $S_{n-r} = S_r imes x^{ rac{1}{2}(n-1)(n-2r)}$ .
