Test of Independence · Exercise 22
For each problem, use a solution sheet to solve the hypothesis test problem. Go to Appendix E for the chi-square solution sheet. Round expected frequency to two decimal places.
Car manufacturers are interested in whether there is a relationship between the size of car an individual drives and the number of people in the driver’s family (that is, whether car size and family size are independent). To test this, suppose that 800 car owners were randomly surveyed with the results in. Conduct a test of independence.
\begin{array}{|c|c|c|c|c|}\hline \text{Family Size} & \text{Sub & Compact} & \text{Mid-size} & \text{Full-size} & \text{Van & Truck} \\ \hline \text{1} & \text{20} & \text{35} & \text{40} & \text{35} \\ \hline \text{2} & \text{20} & \text{50} & \text{70} & \text{80} \\ \hline \text{3–4} & \text{20} & \text{50} & \text{100} & \text{90} \\ \hline \text{5+} & \text{20} & \text{30} & \text{70} & \text{70} \\ \hline\end{array}
