Tree Diagrams, Tables, and Outcomes · Example 4

Use a tree diagram to find the sample spaces of each of the following experiments:

(a) You flip a coin 3 times, noting the outcome of each flip in order.
(b) You flip a coin. If the result is heads, you roll a 4-sided die. If it’s tails, you roll a 6-sided die.
(c) You are planning to go on a hike with a group of friends. There are 3 trails to consider: Abel Trail, Borel Trail, and Condorcet Trail. One of your friends, Jess, requires a wheelchair; if she joins you, the group couldn’t handle the rocky Condorcet Trail.
